National Leader of the All Progressives Congress has spoken on the degree of sacrifice he made to get the People's Democratic Party out of power.
APC National Leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu

The one time governor of Lagos  State, Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu has revealed that he made a big sacrifice to see to the victory of the All Progressives Congress in the last elections.

The APC Chieftain said progressive politics is the answer to the problems in Nigeria.

According to Punch, the former governor of Lagos state made a loud statement at the 70th birthday anniversary of social commentator and National Democratic Coalition chieftain, Professor Segun Gbadegesin, on Monday, December 21, in Lagos.

Tinubu noted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ruled Nigeria for 16 years because opposition parties failed to unite.

Recalling elections in 2011, Tinubu said that the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) presented separate presidential candidates and the PDP leveraged on the small size of these parties.

Tinubu also recalled that the leaders of smaller parties used to make themselves the presidential candidates, thereby, causing division within their parties.

However, ahead of the 2015 election, leaders of the ACN, CPC and ANPP united and formed the APC. Tinubu noted that he and other leaders had to suppress their personal ambitions to be able to “chase away the PDP government led by former president Goodluck Jonathan, because in the past those who float political parties end up as its chairman and presidential candidate.”

Speaking further, Tinubu stressed that progressive politics was the answer to the problems in the country. In his opinion, the hope and confidence Nigerians had in the APC before the elections would not be dashed.

In his speech, the ex-governor praised the contribution of Gbadegesin to the pro-democracy struggle and described him as a true peacemaker.

Meanwhile, the Yoruba Youth Congress has described the former governor of Lagos state as the best politician in Yorubaland.

According to the group, the positive change which Nigerians are hoping to see in the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is as a result of the tremendous efforts put up by Tinubu.
