A man has made a most shocking confession revealing his intimate relations with his biological daughter over a period of time.

The man who used Facebook to reveal he was having s*x with his teenage daughter was said to have been preying on the 'vulnerable' girl for five years before coming clean.

After he was charged, the man from Mackay, Queensland's east coast, pleaded guilty to 30 counts of incest and one count of maintaining a sexual relationship with his biological daughter in Queensland District Court.

The 50-year-old man, who can not be named for legal reasons, confessed that he had been in a sexual relationship with his daughter from the age of 14 up to the time she was 18.

The Sunshine Coast Daily reports that Prosecutor Nigel Rees told the court that the man revealed the sexual nature of their relationship on Facebook - admitting that he had been having sex with her for five years - after the pair got in a fight.

'He said he knew it was wrong, he was sorry, and he wanted to end his life,' Mr Rees said.

He reportedly went on to tell the court that the man had used s*x to control his daughter who was too afraid to come forward during the years of abuse, which escalated after her sixteenth birthday.

'[She] said she was petrified of him, she said he was a controlling, overbearing man, with whom she felt powerless to refuse his advances,' Mr Rees said.

During her father's sentencing, the girl, now 19, 'courageously' delivered a victim impact statement where she revealed the abuse continued to affect her mental state and caused her to suffer from nightmares, post-traumatic stress disorder and depression.

Judge Brian Harrison commended her for speaking and said that it was clear her father had tried to normalised their incestuous relationship while she was still young and vulnerable.

He said he would consider that the man had confessed to police and entered a guilty plea which at least 'minimised the impact of the whole legal process' on his daughter.

The man was sentenced to eight years in jail but will be eligible for parole in August next year as he has already served a year behind bars.
