The 51-year-old Canadian journalist includes a quote from a source in the 'adult film industry' who said: 'A mutual friend of Kim and Paris [Hilton] had advised her that if she wanted to achieve fame, a sex tape would be the way to go. Kim had discussed the idea of producing a tape with her family beforehand.'

Halperin who has written numerous shocking celeb-skewering books, including his best-known tome, "2009's Unmasked: The Final Years of Michael Jackson." He's also co-penned 2005's "Love and Death: The Murder of Kurt Cobain," quoted yet another insider, who was supposedly a former friend of Kim's.

Of the explosive new claims, the Canadian writer concluded: 'It is clear that Vivid would not have announced plans to distribute Kim’s tape without a clear indication from the family that they would give the go-ahead once they had come to terms on a price.'

Ray J, now 35, and Kim dated for five years before breaking up in 2007 when the sex tape was released by Vivid Entertainment. The reality star ended up suing the company in what resulted in a $5 million settlement, and the video was distributed.
