Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike has redeemed his promise to the players of the Nigerian Dream Team following their 2-1 victory over Congo in the ongoing African U-23 qualifiers.

According to Complete Sports, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state fulfilled his promise to award a cash gift to the U-23 Dream Team players in Nigeria at their victory against Congo in the current African U-23 championship qualifers. The game was played on Sunday, 19th of July at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port-Harcourt.
According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), in an announcement on Monday, Wike had promised the players $30,000 for every goal and $100,000 for a 3-0 win, but he addressed the players and officials at a reception hosted for the team and handed over the sum of $60,000 to the players.
The governor however expressed how proud he was of the team while commending them for putting up some of the best football performances he has seen in years.
“You guys made Nigerians proud with the way you played against the Congolese.
“You showed that the future of Nigeria football is bright and that the NFF is on the right path in putting the country’s football on the world map.
“All I can tell you guys is that if the Congolese can score a goal here, you can do more than that in Congo in the return leg. I am proud of you and so is the generality of Nigerians,”

Wike finally urged the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF to schedule more matches at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in order to put the sports structure into full usage
